NAMI Education Night Presents:

The Role of Spirituality in Treatment and Recovery

Presented by

Dennis Middel, M.Ed.

Mr. Middel serves as the Director of Faith and Spiritual Wellness for the Mental Health Center of Denver and Western Regional Consultant for Pathways to Promise.  His professional journey includes education, pastoral ministry and extensive research on the role of spirituality and mental health.  He has a passion for increasing mental health awareness within faith communities and encouraging consumers and clinicians to incorporate spiritual wellbeing as a vital part of the treatment plan.

This will be an interactive meeting discussing topics such as:

  • What do we mean by the terms faith, religion, spirituality, and are these important aspects to be considered in therapy, recovery and well being?
  • Why have these topics been avoided or dismissed in therapy by clinicians and consumers?
  • Is this changing and what can consumers do to move this topic forward?
  • What are some of the factors that perpetuate the “no casserole disease” stigma within faith communities?
  • What are some resources to help faith communities become more welcoming?
  • How can we facilitate collaboration between consumer, clergy and clinicians?

Sheila Brockmeier, FaithNet Coordinator for NAMI Arapahoe/Douglas Counties, will share FaithNet’s activities in the south metro area.

Presented by NAMI Arapahoe/Douglas Counties, NAMI Denver, and NAMI Aurora
